We all want more success in our lives, whether it be reaching a huge dream or
conquering the smallest goal. There are some people who are better than others
at achieving more in their life, and there are certain factors, internal and
external, that can determine just how successful you will become at reaching a
particular goal or dream.
|
When you work on improving these 9 factors that I am going to talk about in
this article, you will increases your chances of reaching a particular goal
or dream, and becoming successful. Take charge of your life and
don’t let anything hinder your success
Factor 1: Future Identity
Think about this for a couple of minutes, can you picture your future self
and see yourself actually becoming the person you want to be? Improving your
vision of who you will be in the future is one of the things you need to do
to become more successful.
Envision yourself having certain habits and characteristics that you need in
order to conquer your goals. If you want to be a public speaker, envision
yourself with confidence speaking in front of thousands of people. Think about
the traits that you may need to develop to overcome the challenges that may be
holding you back from a goal. Know with clarity who you want to become and see
yourself making the significant changes in your present self.
“When you let go of what you are, you become what you might be.” –Lao Tzu
Factor 2: Intrinsic Value
There are things in this world that when you do them, you have a sense of
internal fulfillment, a sense of deep internal connection. In order to be more
successful, you must have a deep connection to the things you want to
accomplish, whether it be from a sense of purpose or meaning, or something
that you just love doing. If you are just chasing a goal for extrinsic value,
such as money, fame, or status, you won’t get very far. Pursue something that
is emotionally fulfilling and you will take your life to the next level.
“When you work for money, you will spend your whole life doing things you
don’t want to do, for the sake of money and that’s stupid.” –Anonymous.
Factor 3: Utility value
You must pursue a goal that brings something tangible and real, like a certain
skillset that you can use to enhance your future. There are a lot of people
who pursue goals that do not add value to themselves or their lives. People
set the goal to buy a new car or new cell phone, but don’t think about the
value it will bring to their lives. So many people waste valuable time
pursuing goals that don’t matter.
Pursue something that will give you something real once you accomplish it like
financial stability so you will have the ability to spend more time with your
family. Do not get this confused with pursing a goal for money. You are not
pursing a goal only for the extrinsic value, but for the internal happiness or
something tangible.
Factor 4: Fear
Many people are afraid to pursue something because of the fear of losing out
on something else. When you think about pursuing a goal or dream, most people
think about all the negatives that may come along with that pursuit. If they
pursue this dream, it would take too much time away from family, or just too
much work and time in general to succeed.
Negative thinking is much easier to do than positive thinking, and those
negative thoughts put fear in your heart. This fear is detrimental to your
success. Improve on how you look at things and you will increase your chances
of success.
Factor 5: Too Much Time
When there is too much time between the work you put into achieving a goal,
and the rewards that you reap from that hard work, people tend to quit or not
even start. That is why it is crucial to set up the pursuit to a goal in a way
that will give you little rewards along the way.
Look 3 months down the line instead of 3 years. Focus on the short term
rewards. This will allow you to be more patient in reaching your goals.
Improve this delay factor and you
improve your chances of success.
Factor 6: Personal Control
When you feel like you can’t make something happen because there are external
factors that are holding you back, like your boss, you won’t even start to
pursue a goal. It’s easy to put the blame on someone else and not take
responsibly for your lack of accomplishments, but not taking responsibility is
the reason you are not succeeding.

Take responsibility and control your situation’s outcome. You cannot control
what situations may arise, but you can control your actions. When you start to
feel like you are more in control of the outcome of things, you will have more
confidence and want to start your journey to success.
Factor 7: Social Support
Without social support from your spouse, family members, and friends, it will
be harder to succeed. Look for people who will support you in the pursuit of
your dreams and goals, like a mentor. Also, you can gain more support from the
people close to you who may not believe in you, by keeping them in the loop in
the little progress you may be making towards your goal. You want to improve
on the amount of people who support you, this will increase your chances of
success.
Factor 8: Belief System
If you don’t believe you can do something, or you just don’t have to the time
to do something, then you won’t do it. When your belief system is off track,
then you actions are as well.
When you don’t believe that you have to the time to accomplish something, then
you will instinctively cancel out the time you can have, instead of the
distractions that are holding you back from making more time. If you believe
that you can make something happen, then your actions will be in congruence
with your belief system, and you will make it happen.

Factor 9: Resource Availability
Like blaming others, learn not to blame the amount of resources you have on
what you can and cannot accomplish. When you blame the resources you may or
may not have, you cannot improve your chances of success. There is always a
way to make a goal or dream achievable, find it.
Take Away
Improving these 9 internal and external factors listed above can most
definitely increase the chances that you will succeed in reaching a particular
goal or dream, whether it be losing weight or starting a business. Though
these 9 factors will improve your chances of success, you can never substitute
